As an initial project, we aim to create structured opportunities for cooperation between academics and activists/groups on particular issues. This might include specific requests by NGOs and activists to link to academics who can provide research and other support for their policy and advocacy work, or vice-versa. This could start with a Resource Bank of academics and activists/NGOs working towards alleviating poverty and inequality both in Ireland and internationally by area of research or activism. This is a long-term plan.
We organised a conference on food related poverty around Prof Bina Agarwal’s visit to Ireland.
We plan to have smaller events to raise visibility of ASAP Irish Network by focusing on issues on poverty and coping strategies of poor women.
