We (the small group of five committee members) met on the 29th of January 2016, and deliberated upon the following as a working method.
Since Academics Stand Against Poverty is defined as:
“… a global organization focused on utilizing scholarship to influence policy and public attitudes to poverty”, we proposed that this also become the aim of the ASAP Irish Network. The 20 members from different universities across Ireland agreed to this via email, and many proposed some modifications. As it stands now, ASAP Irish Network has the following ‘working objectives’:
- To create an open dialogue between advocacy groups working against poverty and academics about poverty and inequality in Ireland (and worldwide)
- To provide opportunities for collaboration, formally and informally, between academics and social activists and other groups on specific issues consistent with our aim in Ireland (and worldwide)
- To provide an Irish link for the work of Academics Stand Against Poverty and to use it as an international platform for sharing experiences, information and support
